On the second day of the CSIO Barcelona, Michael Pender emerged victorious in the prestigious Grand Prix of Barcelona, the top competition with a 1.60m height. After a thrilling jump-off involving 12 of the 43 initial riders, the Irishman, riding HHS Calais, delivered a blazing fast round that electrified the packed stands of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. Pender was the only competitor to break the 51-second barrier in the day’s feature event. Sweden’s Rolf-Göran Bengtsson, with Zuccero Hv, claimed second place, while Spain’s Armando Trapote, riding Tornado Vs, finished third after holding the lead for much of the jump-off.
The Grand Prix of the City Barcelona, which featured the three individual Olympic medalists from the Paris Olympic Games, took place alongside a gala dinner held in the club's grandstand. Barcelona’s mayor, Jaume Collboni, presented the winner’s trophy and was also honored with the Joaquín Calvo Trophy, awarded by the RC Polo and the CSIO Barcelona for the city council’s key role in promoting Barcelona as a host of major international sporting events.
